نبذة النيل والفرات: إذا اعتبرنا أن الرياضيات بصفة عامة من المداخل الحديثة لدراسة وقياس وتحليل كثير من المشكلات في العلوم الأساسية، والعلوم الإنسانية، فإن الرياضة المالية تعتبر من أكثر فروع الرياضيات إسهاماً -بطريقة مباشرة أو غير مباشرة- في دراسة وقياس وتحليل كثير من الموضوعات في علوم الاقتصاد والإدارة والمحاسبة... الخ، منها على سبيل المثال لا الحصر، زيادة الإنتاج، والتمويل، والاستثمار، والادخار، والائتمان.. الخ ونظراً لما لهذه الموضوعات من أهمية للدول -متقدمة ونامية- وللمنشآت -عامة وخاصة ومشتركة- بصفة عامة، وللمنشآت المالية والاقتصادية بصفة خاصة... لذا كان لزاماً على كليات التجارة والاقتصاد أن تتضمن برامج الدراسة، بها دراسة مادة الرياضة المالية من الناحيتين النظرية والتطبيقية. لكل ما تقدم فقد تناولت دراسة في هذا المؤلف بابين متكاملين كان الاهتمام في الأول منها بتعريف رأس المال باعتباره عنصراً من عناصر الإنتاج والفائدة على أساس أنها عائد رأس المال، كما تناولت الدراسة في هذا الجزء أيضاً حسابات الفائدة، والجملة، والخصم، والقيمة الحالية، بفائدة بسيطة، وذلك المبلغ واحد، أو لعدة مبالغ مختلفة القيمة ومختلفة المدة، أو لعدة مبالغ متساوية في القيمة ومتساوية في المدة (الدفعات)، ثم تطرقت الدراسة إلى الطرق المختلفة لاستبدال الديون قصيرة الأجل، وطرق استهلاك القروض قصيرة الأجل. وتناولت الدراسة في الجزء الثاني، حسابات الفائدة، والجملة، والخصم، والقيمة الحالية، بفائدة مركبة، وذلك لمبلغ واحد أو لعدة مبالغ مختلفة القيمة ومختلفة المدة، أو لعدة مبالغ متساوية في القيمة، ومتساوية في المدة (الدفعات)، وانتهت الدراسة في هذا الجزء بالتعرض لطرق استبدال وتسوية الديون طويلة الأجل، وكذا طرق استهلاك القروض طويلة الأجل.
