نبذة النيل والفرات: يهتم علم الاقتصاد الكلي بدراسة سلوك الفعاليات الاقتصادية من خلال المجاميع الاقتصادية الكلية، وتطورات النشاط الاقتصادي في فترات الدورة الاقتصادية، وحسابات الناتج والدخل القومي، ومعدلات التضخم ومعدلات البطالة، وحالة ميزان المدفوعات وأسعار الصرف وذلك في إطار تحليل فترة قصيرة بالتركيز على طبيعة التقلبات، وفي إطار تحليل فترة طويلة بتتبع اتجاهات النمو. وبشكل عام يمكن القول أن الاقتصاد الكلي يهتم بدراسة سلوك ومحددات كل من الاستهلاك والاستثمار والسعر الخارجي للعملة الوطنية وأسعار الصرف الأجنبي والأجور والأسعار وأسعار الفائدة والدين العام، وكذلك السياسات النقدية والمالية وحالة ميزانية الحكومة والميزان التجاري والجاري . وهذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا جاء ليوضح مفهوم الاقتصاد الكلي وحساباته والنظريات التي جاءت به. وهو يتفرع الى ثلاثة أقسام رئيسية هي: القسم الأول الأساسيات والمفاهيم والحسابات القومية، القسم الثاني: ويضم أفكار ونماذج اقتصادية لأربعة مدارس في الفكر الاقتصادي المعاصر: التقليديين، الكينزيين، النقديين واقتصاديو جانب العرض، القسم الثالث: يتحدث عن السياسة الاقتصادية في النماذج الاقتصادية المختلفة.
