يعتبر عصر النهضة بصفة عامة من العصور الغزيرة فنيا وذلك لاندماج شتى من الفنون التشكيلية بصورها لها تميزها وفن الازياء فى عصر النهضة يعتبر جزء لايتجزأ فى قوانينه عن الفنون التشكيلية المجاورة وقد اقتصر هذا الكتاب على دراسة الطراز الباروكى للأزياء بالقرن السابع عشر لأنه أساس المدارس الفنية النهضية فى أوروبا . وترجع قوة الطراز الباروكى الى أنه يعتبر همزة الوصل بين حضارة القرون الوسطى فى أوروبا ونهاية حضارات عصر النهضة الاوربية كما يعتبر أيضا مرحلة مستقلة عن العصر الحديث الذى يليه وفضلا عن ذلك فقد ساد فى هذا العصر التجريبى اتجاه التأليف والاقتباس من اتجاهات فنية مختلفة كان أهمها إحياء الطراز الاغريقى الرومانى المتواجد بايطاليا بشكل غزير فترى لقاء طراز العصور الوسطى بكلاسيكية عصر النهضة التى منشأها الطراز الكلاسيكى الاغريقى الرومانى القديم ويمتزج كل ذلك مع روح العصر الجديد مساهما فى اثراء الفنون التشكيلية وظهور طراز متميز وهو الطراز الباروكى الذى امتاز بالبزخ والترف والفخامة والمبالغة التشكيلية . فلذلك تعتبر دراسة الأزياء الباروكية من الدراسات التى لها أهميتها فى إرساء القواعد الأساسية لفنيات الأزياء النهضية وبالرغم من ذلك لم تحظى بدراسة عميقة من جانب الباحثين وخاصة بمصر ، هذا مما دعى الى دراسة تلك الحقبة من التاريخ بمنهجية وصفية تطبيقية . وفى هذا الكتاب تم التعرض الى تأثير العامل الجغرافى والحالة السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية كذلك الفنون التشكيلية على الأزياء الباروكية للنساء بالقرن السابع عشر
