يعد النحو من المستويات اللغوية التي يحتاجها كل من ينطق بالضاد كاداة تعبيرية لا سيما على المستوى الوظيفي، فأن القواعد ليست غاية يقصد ذاتها، وإنما هي وسيلة تعين الدارسين على تقويم اللسان حين ينطق، وتصحيح أسلوب الكتابة حين يمارسها. وتتضمن مادة هذه الكتاب موضوعات أساسية في قواعد اللغة العربية وتطبيقاتها موزعة على عدة وحدات، تنتهي كل وحدة بتمارين متنوعة، في حين تتناول الوحدة الأخيرة نصوصاً تطبيقية تكون مجالاً للاستيعاب والتحليل، وتدرس على صعيد اللغة، والنحو والبلاغة والتفسير والتذوق الفني. وقد روعي في موضوعات الكتاب التيسير والإيجاز دون الخوض في التفصيلات والمسائل الخلافية في النحو والصرف، باعتبار هذا المساق ثقافة عامة يأتي تأكيداً واستمراراً لما درسه الطالب في قواعد اللغة العربية وتطبيقاتها في المرحلتين الأساسية والثانوية، وليشكل متطلباً سابقاً لمتطلب الجامعة في مادة اللغة العربية. كما وحرص الكاتب على أن تكون الأمثلة التي تستخرج منها القواعد في مرحلة القياس والتقويم تبنى على التمرينات التي تمتد عبر المكان والزمان العربي والإسلامي، فتحمل في طياتها نصوصاً من القرآن الكريم، وجوامع الكلم، وضروباً من الاستعمال الجاري في الحياة لتظل القواعد النحوية في مدارها الطبيعي الذي تحيا فيه، وليكون تعلمها في سياق التوجيه والتربية الذي يبني لدى القارئ القيم الإيجابية ويصقل ذوقه وينمي سليقته اللغوية، إضافة الى الناحية المعرفية الوظيفية. وقد استخدم أسلوب التبسيط إذ تندرج في التحليل واستخراج القواعد. وهذا قد يشوق القارئ أن يمر بسهولة ويسر على المسائل التفصيلية الدقيقة.
