يتضمن هذا الكتاب رواية من روايات الخيال العلمي، هذه الروايات التي تنقل القارئ من الواقع إلى الخيال، ومن المعقول إلى اللامعقول، فيجني القارئ من هذه الروايات الفوائد العلمية والأدبية. يعتمد الكتاب في هذه الروايات على أسس واقعية وظواهر مدهشة موجودة في حياتنا فيصوغها وينمقها على شكل روايات تحمل قيمة كبيرة ومنفعة ومتعة للقارئ. أما هذه الرواية فتتناول قصة طبيب ينتقل من قرية إلى أخرى لمعالجة مرضاه، وتصادفه في الطريق أحداث كثيرة، ومخلوقات ذات أشكال غريبة، ويصادف أناساً مصابين بقروح وجروح كثيرة. وعندما يسألهم عن الأسباب يعلم أنهم أجريت عليهم تجارب علمية من قبل رجل يسكن في قصر معزول في أعلى الجبل. وكان هدف تلك التجارب استنساخ كائن بشري شديد الذكاء، ومع تتابع أحداث الرواية يقوم ذلك الرجل الذي يقبع في القصر المعزول بإحضار الطبيب، وإطلاعه على قصره الذي يظهر كمخبر مكتمل، ويوضح له أنه يريد استنساخ كائن بشري شديد الذكاء، ولكنه يجد أن العقل البشري لا يمكن استنساخه.
