الا صم deaf هو الشخص الذى لاتقوم حاسه السمع لديه بوظيفتها الفسيولوجيه (الطبيعيه)‘مما يؤدى الى عدم قدرته على التواصل مع المجتمع ‘وعدم تكيفه معه. وللصم اسباب عديده بعضها وراثى‘والاخر بيئى يحدث قبل او اثناء اوبعد عمليه الولاده وتحديد اسباب الصم ومعرفه وقت حدوثه‘ودرجه فقدانه من الامور المهمه التى يمكن فى ضوئها وضع وتوصيف الاهداف والبرامج التربويه المناسه .
فالاصم الذى اصيب بالصم منذ ولادته يختلف تماما عن الذى اصيب بالصم بعد اكتسابه بعض الاشكال اللغويه.
ويتوقف تحديد الفصول التى يلتحق بها المعاق سمعيا‘ودمجه مع العاديين على درجه فقدانه السمع.
