تأتي هذه الدراسة لمواصلة المسار الذي بدأناه في دراسة السرد العربي القديم من خلال العمل الأول المتعلق بالخبر في السرد العربي، وفي هذه الدراسة نحاول أن نخطو خطوة أخرى إلى الأمام في ملامسة جوانب أخرى من النص السردي التراثي، وتمركز أهتمامنا حول طرق اشتغال التخييل في إعادة بناء النص السردي العربي خصوصاً تلك النصوص التي توحى بطابعها الواقعي التوثيقي، وتكون في بنائها أقرب إلى النص التاريخي منه إلى النص الأدبي التخييلي. التجليات النصية من هذا القبيل هي كثيرة ومتعددة في التراث السردي العربي، ويصعب مقاربتها جميعاً في دراسة واحدة مفردة، ولهذا انتقينا عينة من النصوص اعتبرناها تمثل تنويعاً في التجليات السردية التي يتفاعل فيها الواقعي بالتخييل في نسق سردي منسجم يسهم في بناء دلالة خاصة، وحصرنا هذا المتن في ثلاثة نصوص أساسية هي: كتاب الاعتبار لأسامة بن منقذ، السيرة النبوية في بعض تحولاتها التاريخية، ثم خطاب الرحلة من خلال الرحلة العياشية.
