فازت روايته "المشرط" بجائزة الكومار الذهبي 2007 لأفضل رواية تونسية.
صدر له "نوارس الذاكرة" و"سرق وجهي" و"حركة السرد الروائي ومناخاته" و"الكتابة الروائية عند واسيني الأعرج" و"هكذا تحدث فيليب لجون".
ترجمت أعماله إلى الفرنسية والإيطالية والإنكليزية والعبرية والبرتغالية.
حصل الرياحي على شهادة الدراسات المعمقة في النقد الروائي للأدب العربي الحديث.
عمل كمراسل صحفي للعديد من المجلات والصحف والمواقع، كما قدم وأنتج عددًا من البرامج التلفزيونية.
حصل على جائزة القصة القصيرة بالقاهرة سنة 2005، وجائزة الكومار الذهبي لأفضل رواية تونسية لسنة 2007 عن روايته المشرط، وتوج ضمن الفائزين في مسابقة بيروت 39 لسنة 2009، وترجمت أعماله القصصية إلى عدد من اللغات أبرزها الفرنسية والإيطالية والإنجليزية والعبرية.
كانت بدايته في السنوات الأولى من الجامعة، حيث أصدر أثناءها مجموعتين قصصيتين وهما نوارس الذّاكرة عام 1999 وسرق وجهي عام 2001.
وفي مجال الرواية، صدرت له رواية «المشرط»، كما صدر له كتاب نقدي في الأردن بعنوان "حركة السرد الروائي ومناخاته" والذي تناول فيه بالنقد والتحليل عددًا من الروايات العربية منها التونسية والمغربية والأردنية والجزائرية، وتناول في كتابه النقدي الثاني "الكتابة الروائية عند واسيني الأعرج".

يقول المؤلف في مقدمة عمله: «انعطف الروائي واسيني الأعرج على الواقع الجزائري منذ الثمانينيات، يلاحق محنه وهزّاته السياسية والاجتماعية من دون أن يهمل الهاجس الفني، فجاءت أعماله متجدّدة في أسلوبها ولغتها وتشكيلها واختلفت خامات نسيجها. وتواصل التزام الرّوائي بقضايا وطنه، إذ نهضت ذاكرة المحنة جزءاً من ذاكرة شعب، يسعى واسيني الأعرج جاهداً إلى تسجيلها. هذا ما أكسب تجربته خصوصية واضحة في زحمة النصوص المنشورة داخل الجزائر وخارجها». يشرّح الكتاب الخصائص الأسلوبيّة في روايات الأعرج، واضعاً تحت المجهر رواية «حارسة الظلال» نموذجاً مثالياً لذلك.
