إذا كانت الأبيات المأثورة قد خلدت عبر العصور فلأن فيها مضامين إنسانية عميقة مرتبطة بجوهر الإنسان وحقيقته، ولأن فيها صياغة فنية جميلة جعلتها رشيقة الألفاظ، عذبة في الأفواه وفي المسامع يطيب للناس أني رددوها وأن يسمعوها وأن يتغنوا بها في مواقفهم الإنسانية المختلفة. والذي يسجل لمصطفة محمود أنه استطاع أن يدرك هذه المزايا كلها في الشعر المأثور، وأن ينفح بها مقطوعاته التي بناها على هذه الأبيات، فتأتي على الأقل موازية في عمقها وصدقها وعذوبتها ورقة حواشيها تلك الأبيات إن لم تكن تفوقها في أحيان كثيرة. وهكذا نجد الأبيات الشعرية المأثورة التي تعود الناس أن يرددوها في مواقفهم المختلفة، سواء أدركوا مضامينها كاملة أو لم يدركوها، وسواء التهبوا بناء تجربتها أو لم يلتهبوا، قد تحولت على يراع الشاعر مصطفى محمود ينابيع متدفقة تتفجر منها روافد شعرية غزيرة، تحمل في ثناياها وميض الإلهام وتكشف بالحوار الداخلي حقائق الحياة البشرية، وكأنها قد تألقت في وجدان هذا الشاعر تألق النيازك، فجمع أضواءها، وأطلق أشعتها من قريحته، مقاطع شعرية وضاءة، تنثال على شفتيه شلالات من النور تحول دون انطفائها. "كنوز ورموز" مقاطع شعرية غنية، وطرق صوتية ولفظية كيفما سلكتها، هدتك إلى ذاتك، كمثل صحوة نفسك فوق نفسك. في كل بيت إشراق على خفاياك، وفي كل شطر زاوية منسية تستفيق. وكلما تناولت هذا الغذاء الروحي بتعمق ووعي شعرت بتعدد الأدمغة فيك، وبانصهار لمع الأذهان في مصهر وجدانك على توليد ليس له قرار.
