يضم الكتاب ستاً وثلاثين قصيدة من الكلام الذي يصدق عليه قول محمود درويش: "الشعر هو الكلام الذي إذا قرأته أو سمعته قلت هذا شعر"، يساعده على ذلك حسن استعماله للتراكيب اللغوية: حالاً أو تميزاً أو مبتدأ وخبر، وحيث تكثر أوصاف الطبيعة التي لا تخلو منها قصيدة، فتكثر مفردات مثل: الشجرة ـ الجبال ـ الرمل ـ الصيف ـ المساء ـ الحقل في معظم صفحات الكتاب كما في قصيدة بعنوان: "زيارة" (صفحة 10) تمضي شرقاً من "أبو الشامات" "الشاماتُ" ربما ماعزٌ تناثر في السفوحِ أو أجماتُ شبحٍ في ظليلِ الجبال ، بُطْمٌ في مسايل الوِديانِ، جُزرٌ من لغاتٍ تتهجاها الصخورُ بعد أن نحَّسَتْها الشمسُ" ... وتكثر في الكتاب الرموز والإحالات كما في قصائد: "ناندا" و"دمون" و"تواهي سعدي يوسف" و"عربات بريد رشا عمران" و"السيدة بنظارات كتلك التي لتشيخوف" ولهذا تكثر الهوامش في آخر الصفحات.
