واجه الايزيديون والديانة الإيزيدية منجما لا ينضب من الاتهامات والصور والاساطير منذ القدم، وما تزال آثار هذه الاتهامات مستمرة في كتابات الباحثين المعاصرين، كما في صورة الناس عنهم. وخلال حكم الدولة العثمانية تعرضوا الى محاولات "الاسلمة بالقوة" وصدرت بحقهم الفتاوى التي تصنفهم كجماعة مهرطقة. ويرى الايزيديون منذ تلك الفترة التي انطلقت فيها الحملات أو "الفرمانات" كما يسمونها تاريخا متصلا من اضطهادهم ومحاولة تغيير هويتهم الدينية بالقوة دينيا. غير إن إجتياح تنظيم داعش قرى الايزيديين على الجهة الجنوبية من جبل سنجار، تلك الكتلة الصخرية الحمراء اللون من التاريخ الدموي، سجل حلقة جديدة في تاريخ الفرمانات الإيزيدية. إذ، يؤرخ الأيزيديون لــ"73" إبادة جماعية يطلقون عليها تسمية "الفرمانات"، ويضيفون الرقم "74" لوصف الإبادة الأخيرة على يد داعش.
ينتمي هذا الكتاب الى سردية إيزيدية بدأت بالنمو مع كتاب الجيل الأول من المثقفين الإيزيديين، وكان "خليل جندي" ضمن نخبة صغيرة وجدت ضرورة أن لا تترك للآخر مهمة الكتابة عن معتقداتها الدينية، ووقفوا إزاء مسؤولية عظيمة في تعريفها للجمهور العام والمتخصص. وكانت أول محاولة إيزيدية منهجية تتمثل في كتاب (الأيزيدية في ضوء نصوص الديانة الأيزيدية)، المجمع العلمي الكردي 1979. ومن يومها، لم يتوقف "خليل جندي" عن التأليف والبحث في الديانة الإيزيدية، ومن أخر نتاجاته كتاب توثيقي ضخم حمل عنوان "صفحات من الأدب الديني الايزيدي" بـ1122 صفحة باللغة الكردية تضمن خبرة أكثر من ثلاثة عقود في البحث والتنقيب في التاريخ والمعتقدات الإيزيدية. وفي هذا السياق الإبداعي نقدم كتابه الأخير "الدين الإيزيدي"، الذي يعد من وجهة نظرنا أبرز ما كتب عن هذه الديانة العريقة وأتباعها، ويعد تتويجا لعقود من البحث والرصد والتحليل لإبرز خبراء الإيزيدية على المستوى العالمي.
