أناتول فرانس هو روائي وناقد فرنسي ولد في باريس في 16 أبريل 1844 لعائلة تعمل في الفلاحة وتوفي في 12 أكتوبر 1924. من رواياته "جريمة سلفستر بونار" و"الزنبقة الحمراء" و"تاييس" و"ثورة الملائكة" و"الآلهة عطشى". دخل في أكاديمية اللغة الفرنسية في 23 يناير 1869 متحصلا على المقعد 38. تحصل على جائزة نوبل في الأدب لسنة 1921 لمجموع أعماله.

"تاييس" غانية جميلة ثرية تعيش في القرن الرابع الميلادي حياة عابئة صاخبة، و"بافنوس" الراهب المتنسك، العاشق لـ"تاييس" يحاول أن ينتشلها من عالمها الذي تحب، فينطلق الاثنان في مغامرة تزدحم بالأحداث والرؤى والتناقضات. فهل ينجح الراهب في هداية الغانية إلى الطريق القويم؟ وهل تتوب الغانية الجميلة التي استهوت القلوب وخلبت العقول؟ وإذا كان من المحتمل أن ليس لهذه القصة أساس من الواقع، فإنها أمدت أناتول فرانس بموضوع روايته التي جعل الموسيقي الفرنسي "جول ماسينه" المسرحية الموسيقية المعروفة "تاييس".
