بعـد رحيل عبد الوهـاب بفـترة قـليلة فاجـأت زوجته الكاتبَ الكبير وصديق عبد الوهاب الشاعر فاروق جويدة بمفاجأة غريبة.. لقد أخبرته أن عبد الوهاب طلب منها قبل رحيله أن تعطيه أوراقه الخاصة، التي كان يكتب فيها خواطره في بعض الأحيان. وكان فاروق جويدة يعرف أن عبد الوهاب يكتب بعض خواطره، بل وكان في بعض الأحيان يقرأ بعضها معه، ولكنه لم يكن يتصور أن يضع على عاتقه هذه المسئولية الضخمة. واكتشف وهو يقلب هذه الصفحات أن هناك عبد الوهاب آخر غير الذي نعرفه بين هذه السطور: لقد حاول الرجل في هذه الأوراق أن يكون نفسه.. أن يفصح عن أشياء كثيرة كان من الصعب أن يبوح بها. ولأن عبد الوهاب كان إنسانًا حذرًا في معظم الأحيان ومجاملاً في أغلب الأحيان؛ فقد قال في هذه الأوراق كل ما عنده: في هذه الأوراق آراء سياسية حادة جدًا.. كتبها عبد الوهاب.. وفى هذه الأوراق آراء فنية جريئة وصريحة وقاطعة. وفى هذه الأوراق تعرية لجوانب كثيرة في حياتنا.. كنا أحيانا نخجل من الحديث عنها. وفى هذه الأوراق شهادات إنصاف كثيرة. إنها وثيقة نادرة وإطلالة حميمة وسيرة عظيمة لواحد من عباقرة الفن في العصر الحديث، ورمز من رموز التاريخ المصري
