لم يدُر بخلد زياد وهو يُودِّع أهله في مطار الملك خالد بأنه لربما كانت تلك هي المرة الأخيرة التي يراهم فيها. فبعد وصوله إلى بريطانيا، ينتقل والده برفقة أسرته للعمل في السفارة السعودية في دمشق. تتسارع بعدها الأحداث وتتطور مع اندلاع الثورة السورية، حيث تصل الأخبار إلى زياد حاملة معها نبأ اختطاف أسرته هناك. يُقرر زياد بعد أن استنفذ جميع المحاولات المُمكنة، أن يذهب بنفسه إلى سوريا وأن يبدأ البحث عنهم. لم يُدرك زياد حين خطا خطوته الأولى في أرض الشام بأنَّ حياته قد تغيرت منذ تلك اللحظة إلى الأبد!
