لا أدري لماذا أجد في نفسي رغبة ملحة في كتابة هذه المذكرات بعد أن أعرضت عن ذلك إعراضاً تاماً على أثر عثور النيابة على مذكراتي الخاصة سنة 1943م وما لقيت من المحقق من عنت وإرهاق في غير جدوى ولا طائل ولا موجب إلا تحمل الألفاظ غير ما تحمل، واستنباط النتائج التي لا تؤدي إليها المقدمات بحجة أن هذه هي مهمة النيابة العمومية باعتبارها سلطة اتهام.
ولعل ضياع معظم هذه المذكرات بعد ذلك هو السبب المباشر في هذه الرغبة، لأنه يظهر أن من العزيز على المرء أن تضيع من بين يديه هذه الذكريات العزيزة، أو أنه يخشى عليها الضياع والنسيان وهي صفحات حياته، يسرى بتلاوتها واستعراضها عن نفسه، ويتركها لغيره من بعده.. وبالرغم من هذا الضياع فإنني لازلت أذكر هذه الوقائع كأنها بنت الساعة؛ ولعل هذا سبب آخر لرغبتي في الكتابة، حتى لا تأتي على هذا التذكر عوادي الزمن، "واختلاف النهار والليل ينسى"... ومهما يكن من شئ فأنا راغب في الكتابة، وسأكتب نزولاً على هذه الرغبة.
