ليست مسيرة أميرة وايلز التي يسردها اندرو مورتن على هذه الصفحات سوى سرد غير عادي، لأن قصر باكنغهام لم يتدخل في كتابتها، ولأن عدداً كبراً من أفراد العائلة ومن أصدقاء الأميرة ومستشاريها وافقوا للمرة الأولى على التحدث للمؤلف عن حياتها الخاصة والعامة. ومع أنه كان من المفترض تحلي هؤلاء بالكتمان والأمانة التي تولدها معاشرة العائلة المالكة، إلا أنهم تخلوا عن ذلك وتكلموا بصراحة عن حياة أميرة وايلز "ديانا" التي وعلى الرغم من المنظر البراق الذي كان يأخذ بألباب متابعي أخبارها عبر وسائل الإعلام، إلا أن هذا المنظر بدا مخادعاً فالأميرة تعيش بلا أمير ولا إمارة، حياة تكتنفها أحزان مبعثها سجن ضمن بروتوكولات ملكية، وأمير لا يكترث ولا حتى أنه لا يشعر بأميرته كإنسانة لها مشاعرها حقاً كان عرس أميرة ويلز عرس العصر، وحقاً أنها أصبحت نجمة، المرأة تحسدها العيون وتتلهف إليها القلوب في العام ولكن باله من وهم. هذا ما يحاول المؤلف الكشف عنه في كتابه هذا كاشفاً عن عمق المأساة التي كانت تعيشها هذه الأميرة الإنسانة مستقيناً وموثقاً ذلك بنهادات أصدقاء ديانا بالإضافة إلى المعلومات جمعتها العائلة المالكة، وتم له الحصول عليها ليظهر اندرو مورتن أن أميرة الابتسامة الساحرة تعيش منذ زواجها في القلق، فقد أضنتها علاقتها الفاترة مع تشارلز كما أنها قامت ترزح تحت عبء المسؤوليات فيما الصحافة تراقبها. لذلك اضطرت ديانا إلى إيجاد أسباب عيشها، أولادها، أعمال خيرية تساعد من خلالها المرض... وبهذا أصبح لهذه الأمير حباتان: واحدة في قصر باكنغهام مع رجل لا يحفل بها، وثانية مع أصدقائها الذين يحاولون زرع الابتسامة على شفتيها من جديد. وقد حفل الكتاب بالكثير من الصور ثم للمؤلف تحصل بعض منها من ألبوم والد أميرة وايلز الكونت سينسر الثامن بعد أن سمح له بالاطلاع على مجموعة صور عائلته الخاصة أما صور أميرة وايلز وأولادها هذه الصور الرائعة الواردة في هذا الكتاب فقد أخذها باتريك وومار شوليبي، الذي تنازل عن حقوقه كلها لجمعية بترتينغ بوينت الخيرية.
