بين ضفتي هذا الكتاب ثلاثين حكاية من الزمن العربي الممتد، بدءً من زمن الفرسان، الذين لا تقف حدود طموحاتهم عند حاضرهم، فكان لهم مع مجيء رسالة الإسلام والشهادة في سبيله ما أرادوه من مواجهة وانتصار على الزمان ذاته، ثم عطفًا على زمن بدأ بفتنة كُبرى، لافظًا الشجاعة ومعتنقًا الدهاء، وهو زمن الملوك. زمن ضاقت الأرض فيه على المتصارعين على العرش بما رحبت من فتوحات وانتصارات، فكان لابد لهم من التخلص من بعضهم البعض ولو جمعتهم أخوة الدم. وسرعان ما أدت هذه الصراعات لسقوط الأمويين والعباسيين، ممهدة الطريق لزمن الجلبان، جُندٌ مرتزقة من الترك والمماليك والسلاجقة وغيرهم. فصار بدل الخليفة ألف خليفة، لا يملكون ولا يحكمون. ومن بعدها، تناوبت الدول المحتلة من كل حدب وصوب حتى صرنا في زمن مليء باليأس حقًا ولكنه لا يخلو من الأمل. فيه رجال حالمون، وانتفاضات ذبيحة، ورغبة تواقة للتغيير وثورات كامنة تحت التراب وأخرى ظهور للنور، ومازلنا في انتظار زمن عربي جديد، ومخاض جديد وولادة جديدة.
