"البيت الكبير" رواية مستوحاة من حدث تاريخي: إضراب عمال مزارع الموز على الساحل الأطلسي الكولومبي، عام 1928 ، وهو إضراب أخمده الجيش بالرصاص. مؤلف الرواية الفارو سيبيدا ساموديو، كان عمره وقتئذ 4 أعوام بالضبط، وكان يعيش في مبنى خشبي كبير تشرف نوافذه الستّ وشرفته، المزينة بأصص مغبرة، على محطة السكة الحديدية التي اقترفت فيها المجزرة. رغم ذلك، لا يوجد في هذا الكتاب ميت واحد والجندي الوحيد الذي يتذكر بأنه قد شكّ رجلاً بحربة بندقيته في العتمة، لم تتطلخ بدلته العسكرية بالدم "بل بالبراز". هذه الطريقة في كتابة التاريخ, مهما بدت تعسفية للمؤرخين، تشكل درسًا رائعًا في التحويل الشعري. فبعيدًا عن إخفاء الوقائع أو تزيين وتزييف الخطورة السياسية والإنسانية لهذه المأساة الإجتماعية، توخى سيبيدا ساموديو إخضاعها إلى نوع من التطهير السيميائي ولم يقدم لنا منها سوى الجوهر الأسطوري، وهو ما يتبقى دائمًا، بعيدًا عن الأخلاق والعدالة وذاكرة الناس الهشة. فالحوار المتقن وغنى اللغة المباشرة والقول والشفقة المشروعة إزاء قدر الشخصيات، والبنية المجزأة والغامضة نسبيًا التي تشبه كثيرًا بنية الذاكرة: في هذا الكتاب كل شيء يشكل مثالاً رائعًا على الطريقة التي يتمكن بها كاتب أمين من تجنب الكم الهائل من النفايات الخطابية والديماغوجية، الذي يتوسط السخط و الحنين "النوستالجي". هذا ما جعل "البيت الكبير"، لا مجرد رواية جميلة فقط بل تجريبًا فيه قدر كبير من المخاطرة ودعوة إلى التفكير مليًا في الثروة غير المنتظرة، الثروة التعسفية والمضنية في الإبداع الشعري. وهذا أيضًا ما جعل هذه الرواية مساهمة جديدة، مساهمه عظيمة، في أهم حركة أدبية في العالم الراهن: رواية أمريكا اللاتينية. غابرييل غراسيا ماركيز، 1967
