نجد أن الكثير من الأحداث تُحذَف من القصّة، فجيبيتّو، والد بينوكيو بالتّبنّي، يبدو صانع ألعاب ميسوراً، وتبدو المدينة التي يعيش فيها وكأنها إحدى المُدُن السويسرية، وليست بلدة إيطالية فقيرة، كما تمتلئ ورشته بالألعاب الموسيقية والساعات الميكانيكية المعقّدة. أمّا في القصّة الأصلية، فجيبيتّو ليس سوى نحّات خشب فقير. يبدأ الفيلم بإظهار بينوكيو دمية خشبية جامدة، ولا تُوهَب لها الحياة إلا عندما تُحقِّق الحورية لجيبيتّو أمنيّته في تبنّي طفل. أمّا في النسخة الأصلية، فالدمية حيّة منذ البداية، إذ إنها تستطيع الكلام، فنراها تصرخ وتتأوّه عندما يُنزل مَاسْتِرْ أنطونيو فأسه عليها، وهو ما يدفعه إلى إهدائها إلى صديقه جيبيتّو. وتستمرّ قطعة الخشب في التّصرّفات الشاذّة، فتسخر من جيبيتّو، وتتسبّب في مشاجرة بينه وبين صديقه النّجّار أنطونيو.
