يتم الآن تدريس المادة الدراسية "نباتات الزينة وتنسيق الحدائق" -"الحديقة المنزلية" في العديد من الجامعات والمعاهد العلمية إما كمادة دراسية إلزامية لبعض التخصصات مثل تخصص الاقتصاد المنزلي، أو كمادة اختيارية ضمن العديد من البرامج الدراسية الأخرى، الأمر الذي يستدعي توفير مرجع علمي واف يكون بمثابة الدليل الذي يسترشد به العاملون على تدريس هذا المساق العلمي، والذي يجد فيه الطالب ما يحتاجه من معلومات أثناء دراسته. مما استدعى أن يصاغ الكتاب لغة يسهل متابعتها من قبل هؤلاء الدارسين.
وقد تم توزيع المحتوى العلمي لهذا الكتاب على تسع وحدات دراسية بما يتلاءم مع الخطة التدريسية لمادة "النباتات الزينة وتنسيق الحدائق-الزراعة المنزلية" في جامعة البلقاء التطبيقية شاملاً ذلك التعريف بالحديقة المنزلية وأهميتها وطرق تصميمها وأقسامها المختلفة، وأنواع النباتات التي تزرع فيها وطرق تكاثر هذه النباتات واحتياجاتها البيئية، وتشمل كذلك إنشاء المسطحات الخضراء وزراعة الحوليات من أزهار قطف وخضروات، ونباتات طبية وعطرية بالإضافة إلى نباتات الأسيجة والمتسلقات وأشجار وشجيرات الزينة وشجيرات الورد وأشجار الفاكهة ونباتات الزينة الداخلية (نباتات الظل) وخدمة هذه النباتات.
واشتمل الكتاب على العديد من الصور والرسوم والأشكال التوضيحية وكذلك التطبيقات العملية التي تساعد على استيعاب المعلومات الزراعية التي احتوتها الوحدات الدراسية. كذلك اشتملت كل وحدة دراسية على عدد من الأسئلة لتقييم المستوى التحصيلي للدارسين. ويرجو المؤلف أن يكون هذا الكتاب عوناً لجميع المهتمين بالحدائق المنزلية سواء كانوا من الذين يباشرونها بأنفسهم أو من العاملين في مجال تنسيق الحدائق وإنشائها وخدمتها.
