"حكايا من حارات دمشق" كتاب يضم بين دفتيه اثنتا عشرة قصة قصيرة؛ كتبها "سعيد كامل الكوسا" تدور أحدّاثها حول أشخاص ولدوا وعاشوا في دمشق عبر التاريخ؛ ويبدأ كتابه بلمحة عن تاريخ هذه المدينة العريق، أقدم مدينة في التاريخ، وما حفلت به من أحداث ومنعطفات هامة، وما جاء به أدبائها وشعرائها، ورحالة مروا بها ورجال دين وعلماء إسلام، من ابن خبير إلى ابن بطوطة إلى شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية وغيرهم كثير، دمشق هي قلب العروبة النابض، ومواطن الإبداع والحضارة تحكي قصة الإنسان في أرضها قبل التاريخ في هذه الصفحات.
ولأجل ذلك جمع لنا الراوي حكايات من هنا وهناك من الأدب الشعبي المحكي أيام زمان، وهي قصص قصيرة ولكنها ذات مغزى استلها من دروب دمشق الضيقة وأزقتها وبساتينها ونهرها وقاسيونها وأسوارها الحصينة، قصص تفوح منها رائحة الماضي، فيبدوا ماثلاً أمامنا تشتم منه رائحة ياسمين الشام وشجاعة رجال جعلوا للوطن معنى هي قصص تعلم القيم الواجب التحلي بها، من صدق ومروءة ونجدة ملهوف، وصبر، وجميع ما يحفل به تراث دمشق الشعبي هي قصص واقعية، وهادفة جاءت كل قصة فيها لتقدم قيمة أخلاقية معنية فهي إلى جانب التشويق لها طابع تربوي حريُّ بأبناءها أن يقرأوه ويتعلموا منه...
حكايات متنوعة من التراث الدمشقي الشعبي مما يتناوله العامة في أحادبثهم المنقولة عن بعضهم بعضاً، وفيها طرائف وغرائب.
يقول المؤلف في مقدمة كتابه: تحوم أكثر أحداث هذه القصص حول أشخاص ولدوا وعاشوا في دمشق المدينة الخالدة على مر الدهر.
ويضيف قائلاً: دمشق جدّة المدن التي تحدثت عنها الكتب المقدسة زارها كثير من المؤرخين الجغرافيين والرحالة والشعراء والعلماء وتحدثوا عنها بكل إعجاب وتقدير. ولو استعرضنا كل من كتب عن دمشق لوجدنا أن الجميع يعدونها رفيقة الزمن ودوحة الإنسان وقلب العروبة وعقل الإنسانية المفكر وصوت التاريخ وموطن الإبداع والحضارة، وبلد الترحيب بالغريب، فعلى أرضها اصطرعت مختلف المدنيات وتركت وراءها أوابد تحكي قصة الإنسان الذي عاش في أرضها قبل التاريخ لأنها نقطة التقاء الشرق والغرب.
