في البدء كان الكلمة... وكان معلمٌ يرتدي جلبابًا من الصوف الخشن، يجلس فوق كرسيّ، يحلّل أصابع قدميه من بَعد وضوء. سُمرَته كسُمرة أهل السودان، بأسنان شديدة البياض، ووقار عارف، وكان ولد يطوي العمر معنا ساعة بساعة، وكانت جمعة من شهر جمادي الآخرة، صعد المعلّم مِنبرًا، وكان طيرٌ، كطير سليمان النبي، يحطّ على منكبيه، تارة لليسار، وأخرى يمينًا، أذّن مؤذّنٌ، بَسمَل وحَوقَل، أثنى على الأميّ وصحابته وتابعيه، انخرط في الخطابة، والطير غادٍ في سماء الجامع، آيبٌ على منكبيه، حتى استرعى انتباه المصلّين، ما تعوّدوا طيرًا يحطّ على خطيب.
في الجزء الأخير، وقبل أن يقول: "قوموا لصلاتكم"، نقر طائر أُذنه اليمنى.
لم يكن كهدهد سليمان النبي، كان عُنُقه خاليًا من الريش، وبعين واحدة، انسالَ دمعُ المعلّم، أمّنا:
"ولنبلونكم بشيء من الخوف...".
صار خوفٌ يتنقّل من مصلّ لمصلّ؛
"السلام عليكم"،
التفتَ حيث المصلين يهمهمون بالتسابيح، كان ولد، لله الأمر... الطير دامعة.
كان ولدٌ - قبل أن أتوجّه للمسجد - قد أخبرني:
"إن حطّ طيرٌ، فاعلم أن روحًا في سماء الله قد صعدت".
صدّقتُ ولدي، واتخذتكم ولدًا!
