ينقسم الكتاب إلى ثلاثة أبواب، قسم كل باب منها إلى خمسة فصول، استعرض الكاتب خلال كل فصل جزءًا من حياتها، كفنانة وإنسانة، فى شكل "سيرة درامية"، وحاول "زهدى” إبراز الأسباب الحقيقية التى اعتمدت عليها شادية فى ظهور الحجم الهائل لموهبتها، والمؤهلات التى امتلكتها للوصول إلى المكانة، التى حققتها بين جمهورها، كإنسانة وفنانة، ولماذا رغم ابتعادها عن الأضواء لأكثر من ثلاثين عامًا، قبل الرحيل، ظلت الجماهير تعشقها، وتتابع أعمالها وأخبارها؟!
أيضًا يستعرض الكتاب كيف استطاعت شادية أن تقدم كل الألوان الفنية فى التمثيل والغناء، بأسلوب يندر أن يتكرر فى تاريخ الغناء والسينما العربيين، بشكل لم يتحقق لنجمة فى وزن وقيمة وتاريخ كوكب الشرق السيدة "أم كلثوم"، أو نجم تمتد جماهيريته من المحيط إلى الخليج، مثل "عبد الحليم حافظ"، وسر تلك "الخلطة السرية"، التى اعتمدت عليها هذه الفنانة القديرة، وشكلتها، فضلًا عن التفاصيل الكثيرة التى لم تنشر من قبل، حول بداية دخولها الفن، وتعاقداتها على الأفلام التى قدمتها، ومراحل تطورها كممثلة ومطربة، عبر إسهامات كوكبة من الفنانين، الذين أحاطوا بها، وصولًا إلى مرحلة الاعتزال فى أوج مجدها، ثم يختتم الكتاب فى فصله الأخير، باستعراض المرحلة الأخيرة فى حياة هذه "العلامة"، التى كانت وستظل فى تاريخ الفن العربى.
