كيف يختلف الحب عن الشهوة أو الافتتان ؟ هل يتوجب علينا أن ننظر على الحب والزواج كما لو كانا يمثلان معا ( الحصان والعربة ) ؟ هل الجنس على علاقة ضرورية بالحب ؟ وما مدى أهمية الحب والجنس والزواج لأقامة حياة جيدة ؟ يسعى ( رجاء حلواني ) في هذا الكتاب الذي لا يوجد له نظير في اللغة العربية ، إلى استكشاف طبيعة الحب الرومانسي ووظائفه وأخلاقياته بإضافة إلى الموضوعات المتعلقة بالجنس والزواج . حيث يعمل على معالجتهم في ثلاثة أجزاء : الحب : يعالج هذا الجزء القضايا التي تتعلق بطبيعة الحب الرومانسي وسبب اختلافه عن الحب الأخرى ، مثل الصداقة والحب الأسري .كما يدرس علاقة الحب بالأخلاق ، ويسأل عن طبيعة الحدود الأخلاقية في الحب الرومانسي ن وما إذا كان الحب الرومانسي أخلاقيا بطبيعته أم لا . الجنس : يبرهن هذا الجزء على صعوبة تحديد الجنس والموضوع الجنسي ، ويفحص أشكال الجنس ، في ضوء مفهومي المتعة ( الطبيعية ) والجدارة الأخلاقية . ويناقش طبيعة الرغبة الجنسية وعلاقتها بالتشيؤ والفضيلة ، وكل ما له علاقة بالتفاعل الجنسي ، من قبيل : البورنوجرافيا ، الممارسة الجنسية القائمة على السادية والماسوشية ، والرغبات المتحولة . الزواج : حيث يسعى لاستعراض تاريخه ، ويصف مختلف الأشكال التي يوجد عليها الزواج ، والأسباب التي تدفع الناس إلى الزواج . كما يبحث أيضا في ضرورة الزواج ، والطرق التي يمكن من خلالها إعادة صياغته .
