توتشتلي يهوى القبّعات، القواميس، محاربي السّاموراي، المقاصل والفرنسيين، لكنه مجرد طفل وكل ما يودّه الآن هو فرس نهر ليبيري قزم كحيوان جديد في حديقة حيوانه الخاصة. أما أبوه يولكاوت -وهو تاجر مخدرات في أوج قوته- فمستعد لتلبية كل نزاوته. ليس مهمًّا أن يتعلّق الأمر بحيوان نادر يواجه خطر الانقراض لأن يولكاوت قادر على الدوام. يعيش توتشتلي في قصر؛ وكر مكسو بالذهب، ومعه ثلاثة عشر أو ربما أربعة عشر شخصًا بين قتلة، بغايا، مهربين، خادمات وسياسيّ فاسد. معهم أيضًا ماثاتثين، أستاذه الخصوصي، الذي يرى العالم مكانًا مليئًا بالظلم يتحمل فيه الإمبرياليون ذنب كل شيء.
«حفل في الوكر» أكثر من مجرّد رواية أولى واعدة. إنّها قصة رحلة جامحة لتحقيق نزوة. رؤوس مقطوعة، أنهار من الدماء، بقايا بشريّة وجبال من الجثث. الوكر هو المكسيك وكما يعرف الكل: المكسيك أحيانًا بلد رائع وفي مرات أخرى بلد مشؤوم. هكذا تسير الأمور، لأنّ الحياة في نهاية المطاف مجرّد حفل؛ مجرد لعبة.
