يقضي الرجل قرابة عشرين ساعة – هي المدة التي تدور خلالها أحداث الرواية – محتجزًا بالمطار قبل أن يتم نقله إلى السجن، وخلال هذه المدة يستدعي جوانب من حياته وأفكاره. الرواية وإن كانت مأخوذة عن قصة واقعية، تسمي الأشخاص بأسمائهم أحيانًا، إلا أنها تتقنع أحيانًا أخرى فتمزج الواقعي بالمتخيل، ولا تتورع عن اللغة المباشرة حينما تتحتم اللغة المباشرة، متوترة على مدار صفحاتها جميعا، ولا تحيد لحظة عن وعيها بأنها رواية، وأنها فن.
