يوثق هذا الكتاب تاريخ أبو ظبي عاصمة الإمارات منذ أن كانت إمارة صحراوية شبه منسية تقع على ضفاف الخليج العربي، إلى أن نمت وأصبحت حاضرةً من حواضر العالم بسبب الذهب الأسود الذي انفجر من أراضيها في ستينيات القرن المنصرم، فأحدث ضجّة وصخبًا وغيّر وجه أبو ظبي إلى الأبد.
وقد حاول مؤلّف الكتاب خلال عقد من الزمن تتبّع أحداث أبو ظبي السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية ورصدها بشكل موضوعي، فبذل جهدَه في سبيل إعطاء صورة حقيقيّة للحياة في أبو ظبي، متتبّعًا أخبارها في مراكز الوثائق والمكتبات وأرشيفات الصحف والمجلات، وملتقيًا بشخصيات كانت شاهد عيان على التطورات التي ألمّت بأبو ظبي.
ولعل لقاء المؤلّف بجيل الروّاد للاستفادة من مخزون ذاكرتهم كان مُعينًا ورافدًا مهمًّا أضفى على الكتاب واقعية، وألقى الضوءَ على كثير من الأمور التي لم يُتطرّق إليها سابقًا.
يهدف كتابنا هذا إلى المساهمة في بناء الذاكــرة الحيّة لتلك الفترة من تاريــخ أبو ظبي، بطموحاتها وأحلامها وإنجازاتها، وأن يرسم لجيل اليوم جزءًا من ماضيه الجميل الذي عايش مؤلّفه بعضَ أحداثه.
