يتناول هذا الكتاب الأهمية الاقتصادية والاستراتيجية لإقليم الأحساء شـرق الجزيرة العربية، والتكوين السكاني له والقبائل التي كانت تقطن هذا الإقليم وأسباب نزوحها وأماكن انتشارها وعلاقتها ببعضها البعض. كما يتناول دوافع ســيطـرة الـعــثـمانـيين على الإقلـيـم عام (957هـ/1550م)، ثم خـروجـهم منه، والظروف التي ساعدتهم على العودة للإقليم عام (1288هـ/1871م)، وهي فترة الدراسة.
وتبرز أهمية الموضوع في تسليط الضوء على تأثير أحد أهم المكوّنات السكانية في الإقليم - وهم البادية - وتأثيرهم في الأوضاع الأمنية في الأحساء، والسياسة التي اتبعتها الإدارة العثمانية وتنوّعها تجاههم وردود فعلهم عليها، ومدى نجاح هذه السياسة.
