تعدّ أيام العرب في الجاهلية من أهم الأصول الإخبارية التي استندت إليها المرويات اللاحقة، لتكوين سرد حكائي يتناول ذلك العصر، وتتخلل تلك المرويات ملامح ذات أبعاد أسطورية، تسللت إليها من عصور موغلة في القدم، كانت آنذاك تمثل عقائد ومقدسات تفلّتت قبضة اليقينية منها، وبقي منها فتات يحيل إلى ذلك الفضاء المقدّس.
وقد كانت مرويات أيام العرب، سواء الواردة في كتب الأدب - وهي الأكثر - أو في كتب التاريخ، ملاحم العرب الكبرى وأساطيرهم المتناثرة والمجزّأة على أيام عدة، والتي تحولت في ما بعد إلى ملاحم شعبية امتدت في الفضاءين المكاني والزماني.
وإذا كان التراث الإخباري العربي خِلوًا من الأساطير بمعناها البدئي والتأسيسي لمفهوم نشأة الكون، فإن ذلك التراث الإخباري لا يخلو من ترسبات وبقايا من أساطير كانت متداولة في محيط الحضارات السامية أو القريبة من البيئة العربية.
لقد كانت تلك أيامٌ سطّرها الإخباريون القدماء بشيء من أساطير، ورووا ما جمعوه من مروياتها بماء الحياة البدئية، فبقيت لنا تلك الأيام.
