إذا كان اللون أظهر خواص الطبيعة، وإذا كان الشاعر يتكئ على الحواس في تكوين صورته الفنية، فلا بد له أن يتعامل مع اللون، وإذا كان هذا التعامل ذا طبيعة خاصة، تختلف عن طبيعة تعامل الرسام مثلاً؛ فالشعر يحول (اللون) المرئي إلى (لفظة) حاملة له، قادرة على تفجير الإحساس به، مشحونة بكل تاريخه، وهو تاريخ ضارب بجذوره في عمق اللاشعور الجمعي للبشر على اختلاف أجناسهم ولغاتهم وثقافاتهم، مما يعني أن هذا التاريخ بدوالّه اللانهائية ينتقل انتقالاً طبيعيأ إلى الصورة الفنية اللونية، فيخلق لها نكهتها الخاصة جداً، ويضفي عليها أبعاداً ودوالّ، لا يمكن الولوج إلى أسرارها إلا بدراسة تاريخ اللون ودواله وأبعاده.
وتأتي هذه الدراسة المعنونة بـ(اللون في الشعر العربي قبل الإسلام: قراءة ميثولوجية)؛ لتحاول العودة بظاهرة اللون-كأحد العناصر الحسية المهمة في تكوين الصورة-إلى الجذور الأولى، وتحاول النظر للموضوع من منظور مغاير.
وقد اختار الباحث للشعر الجاهلي في هذه الدراسة لتأصيل الظاهرة منذ بدايتها، فالشعر العربي مهما اعتلت فروعه فإنه يتغذى على الشعر الجاهلي، الذي ظلت صوره وتعبيراته مؤثرة على إنتاج الشعر، لأجيال عديدة، وعصور متلاحقة. والبحث بذلك يدرس الصورة الشعرية التي دخل اللون عنصراً أساسياً في تكوينها، فيبحث في جذور هذه الصورة، ويرصد نموها وتطورها، ويقف أمام توظيفها الفني، ويرصد أخيراً بعض خصائصها الفنية.
