يقول المؤلف: في كل ليلة أو صباح يلبسني لت تذهب بي الأوقات بعيداً. ثوب يومي يتسع لرحيل جسدي وأنا أفكر بالموت الذي تراءى لي خلسة الآن ثانية بعد غيبتي لرحيل جسدي وأنا أفكر بالموت الذي تراءى لي خلسة الآن ثانية بعد غيبتي الأولى شاخصاً جليلاً بأوجاعي وهي تزداد في صراخي. تراءى لي بحسرة ونزعة الروح وهي صامتة مخذولة موسومة بعذاب النشور والبعث والحساب.
التفت ذات اليمين وذات الشمال، أبحث عن رقيب وشاهد ومشهود، إذاً هو الموت أقرب لي من من حبل الوريد...".
ولأن الأمل صفة ملازمة للإنسان في الحياة تنفرج أسارير المؤلف في ختام مؤلفه عن بشارات ساقتها له طبيبته الخاصة "... المرض يتبدد من جسدك، والنسبة الباقية قليلة جداً... أي معجزة يا حسن... أنت الآن حرَ طليق، في الخروج والنوم والأكل...". ولعل ذلك هو ما بدد وحشة البئر ومرارة الرحيل.
