في هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الدراسات، كتبها المؤلف في أوقات متفرقة، بعضها تباعدت به أوقات القراءة والكتابة، وبعضها الآخر كان متقاربًا في الوقت، متدانيًا في التناول. وكانت نوازع الكتابة عنها مختلفة كذلك، وإن اشتركت جميعها في شيء واحد وهو أنها بعيدة عن الضرب الفاتر من القول. فلم أكتب عن نص هنا إلا بعد أن وجدتُ فيه ما يمكن قوله، وما أحسب أني أدركت فيه غاية من غايات النقد والرأي
كما سيجد قارئ هذا الكتاب أن موادّه نشر كثير منها في الصحافة، ولذلك فإنها تجتمع جميعها وتنتظم في حبل السرد المديد، سواء منها القصة القصيرة أو الرواية، لكنّ موضوعا واحدا من تلك الموضوعات، قد يختلف عنها ـ وإن كان موضوعه السرد ـ في التناول والمعالجة، بل حتى في مَرَاجِعِه، ذلكم هو موضوع (ألعاب الفيديو). لأن المؤلف نظر إلى ألعاب الفيديو ـ حينما كتبتُ عنها وعن بعض شخصياتها ـ بصفتها نص سردي، أو في أضيق الحدود بوصفها تنطلق من نص سردي، أو نشأ عليها نص سردي، وهذا ما يبرر مجيئها ضمن هذه المجموعة من الروايات والقصص، فكانت مراجعها تبدأ من أفلام الألعاب، وقصص الرسوم المتحركة، وهي مادة النص الأساسية، إضافة إلى ما توفره شبكة الإنترنت من معلومات حول صناعة ألعاب الفيديو، وتطورها منذ بدايتها وحتى الآن. ومع ما يتوقعه القارئ من غنى في الإنترنت حول ألعاب الفيديو، وهذا التوقع في مكانه، إلا أن نقصا شديدا سيفجَأُ الباحث في هذا المجال، فلا يكاد يجد ما يربط بين ألعاب الفيديو والسرديات بالشكل النظري والتطبيقي الذي تطرقتُ إليه في هذا الكتاب. ذلك أن ما يكتب في مواقع الشبكة العالمية هو تعريفات للبرامج، ووصف لطريقة لعبها، أو تاريخ لبداية لعبة أو أخرى، وهذه جميعها بعيدة عما أردتُه في موضوع (ألعاب الفيديو)، ذلك أنني ركزت فيه على الناحية التجنيسية، ووصفتها بأنها جنس جديد يقع بين الأدب والفن، أو قل يأخذ من الأدب والفن أبوين له.
