آذَنَ صُدُور كتاب خواطر مُصَرَّحة سنة 1345هـ (1926م) بِحِقْبة جديدة في تاريخ الأدب والثَّقافة في الحجاز، فلمْ تَعْهَدِ البلاد صوتًا يُشْبه صوت محمَّد حسن عوَّاد في إلحاحه على الثَّقافة الحديثة واطِّرَاح الثَّقافة القديمة، وفُوجِئَ المجتمع بذلك الشَّابّ الذي يَدْعو إلى تَجْديد الفِكْر الدِّينيّ، ولا يكتفي بذلك، ولكنَّه يُشَدِّد على مُمَثِّليه التَّقليديّين في الخِصَام والنَّقْد، ويُكَابِد مِنْ أجْل أدبٍ حديثٍ، وتعْليمٍ مَدَنِيٍّ، وامرأةٍ جديدةٍ.
رَحَّبَ الأدباء الشُّبَّان بمحمَّد حسن عوَّاد وعَدُّوا خواطر مُصَرَّحة دُستُور الثَّقافة الحديثة، وهاج المحافظون في وجْه الكتاب ومؤلِّفه، فَصُودِر الكتاب، وفُصِلَ المؤلِّف مِنْ عمله.
وتَسْعد دار جداول -بعد ثمانٍ وثمانين سنةً مِنْ صُدور الكتاب- بأنْ تُقَدِّم خواطر مُصَرَّحة في طبعة جديدة، اعتزازًا برائد مِنْ رُوَّاد التَّحديث والتنوير في المملكة العربيَّة السُّعوديَّة، وتوثيقًا لمرحلة مهمَّة مِنْ تاريخنا الثَّقافيّ.
