أحس الحلاب أنه غير قادر على العيش في قريته.. وأن كل ما يربطه بها قد تلاشى.. وأن كل ما فيها وما حوله يدخله عالماً حارقاً من الوجع والكآبة والسواد. خرج مودعاً تاريخه.. وطفولته وشبابه وكل ذكرياته وأحلامه التي وئدت وتلاشت.. خرج وهو لا يدري إلى أين يتوجه.. قرر أن يودّع كل حجر وكل شجرة وكل تلة في هذه القرية التي لم يكن يتمنى أن يغادرها.. ولكنه مضطر إلى ذلك حتى لا يُصاب بالجنون.. إذا بقي.. خرج وهو لا يلوي على شيء انسحب بهدوء من قريته ووقف على إحدى التلال العالية يتأمل من بعيد تلك القرى المتناثرة من حوله هنا وهناك مثل "الفقيّر", و"أم غواشي", و"الغبايا", و"الزاوية", و"العميْر"ْ, و"الواسطة", و"المقرح", و"القرص" و"المحجر", و"النصبة" و"سمنه" ونخلات أبيه التي زاد عددها كثيرًا منذ تولى أمرها بنفسه.. أخذ يعبّ من الهواء المنعش المشبع باليود وهو يقف على شاطئ البحر الذي عشقه أبوه"غانم" ليلقي عليه وعلى تلك الأنحاء نظرة الوداع الأخيرة.
انحدر إلى بئر "الوحيدي" ملأ زوّادته بالماء.. ثم انطلق نحو الشمال يبحث عن عالم قد ينسيه أحزانه.. ويداوي الجروح المفتوحة في القلب.. فكر أن يدفن البلورتين في إحدى تلك التلال المتناثرة في طريقه .. ولكنه تراجع عن ذلك لا يدري لماذا.. هناك قوة غير مرئية تمنعه من ذلك.
