يُمثل عبدالله القصيمي ظاهرة مثيرة للجدل والانتباه في الوسط الثقافي العربي، نظراً لما مرّ به من تحولات وتبدلات، منذُ أن تدثر بالرداء السلفي في يفاعته وسنوات شبابه المبكر، ثم تحوله حينما تحدث عن أغلال تكبّل العالم الإسلامي، وكان الانعتاق النهائي فيما تلا ذلك من آراء حادة وصادمة في مجملها.
وقد تناول باحثون عبدالله القصيمي عبر عدد من الأطاريح الأكاديمية، من بينها هذا الكتاب، الذي تقدم به مؤلفه يورغن فازلا، لنيل شهادة الدكتوراة في جامعة فرايبورغ الألمانية، متناولاً السيرة الحياتية للقصيمي مروراً بتحولاته الفكرية. ولقد قضى الباحث سنوات عدة وهو يجمع مادة الكتاب، وكان من أهم مصادره عبدالله القصيمي نفسه، الذي رفض في البداية أي حديث عن حياته ومسيرته، لكنه وافق أخيراً، ليضيف حديثه أهمية تميّز هذه الدراسة.
