يشكل هذا العمل امتداد لكتاب الدكتورة "زهور كرام" السابق "خطاب ربات الخدور.. مقاربة في القول النسائي العربي والمغربي" الذي اعتمد في بناء أفكاره على عملية الحفر في الذاكرة النصية النسائية، من أجل قراءة القول النسائي من بُعده الخطابي، أي طريقة بناء قول المرأة الفكري والأدبي في مرحلة تاريخية معنية... وفي "الرواية العربية وزمن التكون" تقدم كرام قراءة نقدية في النصوص التالية: - "حكاية العشاق في الحب والاشتياق" (1845)، نص سردي جزائري لمؤلفه "محمد بن إبراهيم (الأمير مصطفى)" ذاكرة الرواية وسيرة العشق. - "بديعة وفؤاد" (1906) للكاتبة السورية "عفيفة كرم"، رواية الهجرة والرومانسية. - "جلال خالد" (1927) نص عراقي لكاتبه "محمود أحمد السيد" من المذكرات والسيرة الذاتية إلى التعبير الروائي. - "التوأمان" (1930) نص سردي سعودي، لمؤلفه "عبد القدوس الأنصاري" من الرواية إلى العتبة. - "الزاوية" (1942) نص مغربي لصاحبه "التهامي الوزاني"، سيرة ذاتية بأفق روائي. - "شاهندة" (1971) رواية إماراتية للكاتب "راشد عبد الله" من السرد التراثي إلى التعبير الروائي. ما يميز هذا العمل أنه يقدم خطوة رائدة، تأسيسية للجنس الروائي في الثقافة العربية ولعل أهم مظهر تحمله نصوص هذا الكتاب، هو التقديم النقدي الذي كان يؤسس لمفهوم الجنس الروائي، انطلاقاً من ممارسته الإبداعية (إنتاج الرواية)، وليس من التفكير/التنظير له. من هنا جاءت أفكار الكتاب تبدأ مما تم التوصل إليه من نصوص. من منطلق أن الجنس الروائي في الثقافة العربية، ساهمت في تأسيسه وتأصيله في التربة العربية، مختلف التجارب السياقية المحلية، والتي منحته هويته الثقافية العربية، ولهذا ترى الكاتبة وجوب النظر في مختلف التجارب، بالاهتمام النقدي نفسه، من أجل رؤية جديدة للرواية العربية…
