لا يقتصر كتاب (التعذيب العربي) على كونه قراءات يطلّ منها "محمد مشكور" على الواقع العربي وما آلت إليه عناصر موروثنا الثقافي من استلاب للفكر بدلاً من حريته، بل يشتمل أيضاً على بعد فلسفي – تأملي، فيه تتجسد عصارة الحياة بكل صورها وأشكالها وتناقضاتها. هي لعبة الحياة التي تمتد من مقالة إلى أخرى، حاول الكاتب استنطاقها ونبشها بحكمة، وبعقلانية، وأحياناً بنظرة ساخرة. ينطلق محمد مشكور من "خلافات فكرية" وليس من "خلافات شخصية" كما يقول، وهذا يعني أن كاتبنا يعيد صياغة الواقع بلغته هو بكل تلقائية، ومباشرة، وصدق، بعيداً عن الزخرفة والتكلف الذي يخفي الحقائق وما ورائها. في مقال للكاتب تحت عنوان (استثمار العقل واستثمار الاستهلاك)؛ يقول: "... إذا توفر استثمار العقل واستهلاك الأفكار فإن أي أحد لديه عقل سيتمكن من أن يخدم نفسه وغيره وأن ينتقل في وضعه من فقير بائس إلى غني مترف، وهو ما شاهدناه مراراً وتكراراً يحصل مع الكثير من المشاهير في العالم الغربي من الذين كانوا فقراء وبفضل عقولهم فقط أصبحوا أغنياء، ثم ساعدوا الفقراء بعد ذلك، وشاهدناه أيضاً مع الكثير من الأفراد العاديين أيضاً، ذلك لأن العقل واستثماره موجود كثقافة بينهم، فيما نحن نقدس المادة ونفضلها على العقل والإنسان (...)". من عناوين الكتاب نذكر: "منتهو الصلاحية"، "الفرد... جوهر العصر الحديث"، "استثمار العقل أم المادة"، "التعذيب العربي... من غرف الأمن إلى الشارع"، "القواعد النحوية"، "أزمة القيود الفكرية"، "واقع القراءة في مجتمعاتنا"، "فذلكة في إشكالية الواقع"... إلخ.
