تتوفر معظم المراجع والكتب الدراسية لمقررات الهندسة الكيمائية خاصة والعلوم الهندسية عموماً في البلاد العربية بلغات أجنبية حيث يجد الطالب العلم والباحث معاناة كبيرة في فهمها واستخراج المعلومات منها ثم استيعابها، إن كان متمكناً لدرجة معقول من اللغة الأجنبية. أما إن كان إلمامه باللغة الأجنبية دون تلك-وهو ما نلاحظه في كلياتنا وجامعاتنا-فلن تصله المعلومة المطلوبة كاملة فيكون تحصيله العلمي قليلاً وسطحياً. لذلك أردنا لهذا الكتاب أن يكون متناسقاً مع مقررات السنوات النهائية لدرجة بكلاريوس الشرف في الهندسة الكيميائية في جامعاتنا العربية. كما نأمل أن يستفيد منه المهندسون الكيمائيون وقطاع كبير من الفنيين والتقنيين من العاملين في مجالات الهندسة الكيميائية والصناعات المرتبطة بها وطلاب الكليات التقنية. وقد عكسنا فيه أجزاءاً من خبرتنا في التدريس الجامعي لأكثر من ربع قرن من الزمان في جامعة الخرطوم وجامعة الإمام المهدي وجامعة الملك سعود.
تشكل عمليات الإنتقال أساس المقررات الدراسية في كليات ومدارس وأقسام الهندسة الكيميائية. فنظريات الانتقال المختلفة وتطبيقاتها هي الأساس العلمي والنظري للهندسة الكيميائية. والمعدات والأجهزة المستخدمة متعددة الأنواع والأشكال وتتنوع طرق تصميمها وأساليب تقويم أدائها مما يستوجب الفهم الشامل والعميق لعمليات الانتقال وتوصفها وتمثيلها رياضياً.
ويشتمل الكتاب على ثلاثة فصول رئيسية تتناول عملية الامتصاص وعملية الترطيب وعملية التجفيف ويحتوي كل فصل على أمثلة لتسهيل الشرح والفهم مع مجموعة من المسائل في نهاية كل فصل. إن هذه الفصول الثلاثة تعالج انتقال المادة والانتقال الآني للمادة والطاقة وتأثير الجسيمات الصلبة على عملية الانتقال. ولقد تم إضافة ثبت بالمصطلحات العلمية باللغتين الإنجليزية والعربية لتسهيل معرفة المصطلحات المستخدمة ومجموعة من المراجع الأساسية التي يحتاجها الدارس.
