تنضوي قصائد مجموعة «ترنيمة سوداء» للشاعر العراقي باقر صاحب تحت سقف التكثيف والإيجاز في بنى لغوية ضاغطة تشي في سياقاتها البلاغية بعناصر السخرية والإيهام والمفارقة التي تقود إلى خلق التوتر في العبارة الشعرية لإنتاج المعنى، وهي ما يمكن تسميته بـ (قصائد الصورة أو اللمحة الشعرية أو الومضة وأحياناً الأيقونة) التي تشع بعناصرها الشتكيلية من داخل النص لتأسيس مشهد بصري وصوري معاً، ويتجسد هذا المنظور الفكري والصوري في معظم قصائد الديوان ومنها قصيدته الموسومة بـ [47.. ذبولاً] يقول: "سألتُ زهرةً يوماً/ ما سر رمادك/ ولما يشب حريقك/ - أو لدُ عزاءً بين زهورٍ دُفِنّ في سُرَي البيداء/- وأخرى ذُبنَ في ميلاد الغابة/ سألت أرض الكلمات/ لم أنت مُنْكِسرَة/ تخيطُ شقوقك ثعابين؟/ نهرُ الصِّور/ يرتجفُ مِنْ بَرْدٍ مَا/ سألْتُ سماءَ الشّعْرِ/ لِمَ أَنْتِ رصاصية/ تتعاكسينَ كلّ لحظةِ/ مع تاريخ الوادي الْهَشِيْمِ/ المفتولِ العضلاتِ/ (...)/ قالت الحياةُ: لَسْتَ لذيذاً بين أحضاني/ قَالَ المْوتُ: شاهدتُكَ تتضور مذ 47... ذبولاً".
وهكذا نرى الجهد الفني الذي يولد الشعري داخل قصائد الشاعر، مع الاستعانة بقوى التخييل وعبر تثوير مستويين لسانيين متقاربين ومتجاورين، هما: الدال والمدلول وإنشاء فسحة بينهما لترحيل المعنى من المفترض الذهني والحسي إلى الواقعي الدلالي ومنه إلى القارئ.
يضم الكتاب عشرون قصيدة في الشعر العربي الحديث جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "صفعة البداية"، "خليقة يومٍ ثامن"، "كغناء... في سلخانة"، "لحظةٌ وشارع"، "47... ذبولاً"، "ترنيمة سوداء"، "حياة قروية"، "عتبة خمسين"، "مرثية لحبيبتي في حروب الطوائف"، "خليعُ البلاغة"، "تاجُ خيبة"، "فيض" (...) وقصائد أخرى.
