إذا كان لكل جسد ظله الخاص أو عالمه السري أو حجابه الذي يفصله عن الآخرين؛ فإن الشاعر إياد الحكمي يقيم في الجسد خالعاً ظله عليه ليجعله وهو في تبادل رمزي للحضور وللغياب، موظفاً ثيمة الجسد توظيفاً قائماً على نظم نصي مختلف، لا يركن للعادي، وهو يشهرها كتميمة ضد المجهول القادم من العالم الآخر ليتبرأ من خلالها من توحده ومن حيرته الممتدة ويضاعف من تأثيرها على المتلقي.
من عوالم قصيدته الموسومة "احتضار مزمن" نقرأ: "ذات خوف وجوعٍ/ تُباركُ سعيهما ليلةٌ باردةْ/ كان غيباً/ وإذْ دمعةٌ من أبيهِ/ صداها ترددَ/ في وجنةِ/ الجنةِ/ الوالدةْ/ كان لا بدَّ من قبلةٍ/ أو عناقٍ أخيرٍ/ يرممُ ما كان يشبه قلباً/ قبيل استدلت إليه سماتُ الرمادِ/ من اللون غَضًّا إلى الملمسِ الـ لايُرى../ كان لا بد من جسدينِ/ يشدانِ بعضهما لهما حدَّ دفنهما/ في الصباح معاً...". بذلك التناغم والتداخل بين النص المكتوب وبين من يتلقاه يمكن قراءة مشهدية خطاب شعري متقن يؤسس لشاعر يشكل حالة خاصة في المشهد الشعري المعاصر بين أبناء جيله.
يضم الكتاب ستة وعشرون قصيدة في الشعر العربي الحديث توزعت على ثلاثة مجموعات جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: 1- جثثٌ دافئة، 2- صحف بيضاء، 3- قيامة الرماد.
