"لست بشاعرة ولا كاتبة، ولكني أداعب ثمانية وعشرين حرفاً لأعبر عمّا يجول في خاطري أو خاطري أو أحاكي واقعاً ليس بواقعي أو أتخيّل أشياءً جميلة أتمنّاها في حياتي..
البوح جميل، والأجمل منه عندما ترى انسياب الحروف معك لتُنسج نسيجاً خيالياً أو واقعياً..
لذا سأدع حروفي تكتب، ولن أضع لها حدّاً. سأتركها تكتب وتحب وتعشق كما تُريد..
لن أضع لها حواجز لتُعيقها، سأدعها تُطلق العنان لبوحها، فما كتمان الحروف إلا ألم في القلب أو خوف من واقع..
لن أكتمها ولن أمارس عليها معالم التسلّط، ولا حياة التملك ولا روح الاكتئاب، ولا نسمة التشدّد. سأجعلها تكتب وتكتب إلى أن تصل مبتغاها.. كل حرفٍ سيبوح ويبني أروع العبارات، وستُحلّق بلهفة وشوق ولن تدع أحداً يُعكر لها مزاجاً. ستُغني لحناً يُطرب الأجواء، ستُخبر المارّة عن سرّ سعادتها، وستُنشد نشيد الأحباب.
كيف لا وهي حروفي تتناغم سوياً لننسق أجمل اللحظات فهي حروفي وهذه أنا.
ولكم ما نسجناه معاً ليعبر عما يجول في خاطرينا ليصل إلى قلوبكم ويحاكي أرواحكم".
بهذه العبارات تفتتح الشاعرة خلود الخريمي منتجها الإبداعي «خلف النوافذ» وعلى الرغم من اعترافها بأنها ليست شاعرة ولا كاتبة، فإنها بدت في النص أكثر من شاعرة ومن كاتبة إنها الأنثى حينما تحلم وتعشق وتنطق ولكن بحركية شعرية دالة؛ على الحبّ والحلّم والانتظار والأمل، وقد انبثقت هذه الثيمات في النص بتعبيرات شتى، مفتوحة على التأويل، لا تتقيد بالحروف، ولا الكلمات، بل بالامتلاء الكامل من كل هذا وذاك، أنه الامتلاء بالجمال والتوحد معه وبه وهذا امتياز الشاعرة الخريمي.
في القصيدة المعنونة «صباحك أنا» تقول الشاعرة: "مع إشراقات الصباح/ ابتسم بكل سعادة/ وأتذكر دائماً تُحبني/ ابتسم بكل ثقة/ فحبك يتصدر قلبي/ وستظل حبيباً مهما/ عاندتنا الظروف/ صباحك ابتسامة حب/ صباحك أحاسيسي المرهفة".
يضم الكتاب ما يزيد عن الخمسون نصاً شعرياً جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "رقة"، "حنين"، "اختناق"، "كذبة"، "رحيل"، "حياة ماضية"، شموع الفرح"، "يا ورد"، "انتظرتك"، "خلف النوافذ"، "الحب أعمى"، "طيبة قلبك"، "انكسار"، "لحظة غروب"، "الكوخ"، (...) وقصائد أخرى.
