"وماذا بعد الستين؟ /لا نافذة عاشقة تغازل ظلي /ولا ذكرى مارقة تنتظر أجلي /والعمر ضنين /كان النهار يبيع الحنين، للاهثين /خلف الظِّلال /والليل يوزع تذاكر اللقاء للحالمين /كانت الأيام تستجدي الصمت أغنية:/رتبي أحلامي، وفي عينيّ نامي /كنتُ الوحيد الذي آمن باليقين /وماذا بعد الستين؟..."."وماذا بعد الستين؟" عنوان شعري اختاره ضيف الله آل حوفان، ينطوي على بعد جوهري، يتفرع منه أبعاد أخرى، منها ما ينبع من كينونة الذات/الشاعرة ورغبتها بالحياة، ورغبتها بالاستمرار. ومنها يتولد من شعورها أي – الذات - بهرب الأشياء الجميلة وإدبارها السريع إلى غير رجعة؛ ما يعني الشعور بسطوة الزمن الذي يسلب إمكانية القبض على الحاضر، وامتلاؤه بالضد من كلِّ ما يجعلُ للحياة معنى، الحبّ والأصدقاء والأهل والأحلام والأمل...في الخطاب الشعري يتبع الشاعر حوفان ما اصطلح عليه تيار الوعي الذي عن طريق وسائله نعثر على زخم كبير من المشاعر والإحساسات والتداعيات والتأملات؛ ومن خلال هذا الزخم، تمارس القصيدة عملية بنائها وتناميها وأثرها على المتلقي.يضم الكتاب قصائد في الشعر العربي الحديث وأخرى نثرية جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "شبّاك الأماني"، "نسيان الحادي والعشرين"، "الحب: أمي"، "أغاني الغرباء"، "الحاضر الطائش"، "الحب والموت سواء"، "الصرخة الأخيرة"، "الموتى السائرون"، "أمي والعالم يأتي" (...) وقصائد أخرى.
