يختار الشاعر حسين صميلي في ديوانه «سنبلة في فم الريح» سبيلاً صعب العبور هو سبيل الملحمية وهي ملحمية تتخذ من استحضار تاريخ جازان والوعي به دالة جغرافية يحاول صاحبها الإمساك بناصية الأرض، أرض وطنه، عبر كتابة خاصة هي مزيجاً من شعر ومخيال ورؤى وصور ومجاز وتشخيص مجردات، وأنسنة أشياء، وموجودات.. ويظهر الشاعر في حديثه عن الوطن مستنداً على بعض البنى الأسلوبية، كالجملة الدرامية عن طريق الفعل، وحركية الحدث في المكان والزمان، والدلالة التي تمتح موادها من أبعاد ذاتية حيناً، وروحية أحياناً أخرى...
في القصيدة المعنونة «جازان نبض دمي...» يقول الشاعر:
"جلّتْ مرابعُ قلبِك الجَوَّابِ / ما ملَّ من سفرٍ ولا أتْعابِ! مُتدثراً شوقَ المدى متوشحاً / نايا، وفي جنبيهِ سيلُ رِغابِ! اللهَ من مسراكَ كيف شحذتَهُ / بالأمنياتِ، يموجُ مثلَ عُبابِ من أين جئتَ؟ تزفُّ خطوَك فرحةٌ / عَجلى، ترفرفُ بالسنا المُنسابِ أنا من بلادِ الشعرِ يرقصُ رملُها/طرَباً، ويزهرُ بالهوى الغَلاَّبِ...".
وهكذا بين الواقع وجدل الشعر يبني الشاعر حسين صميلي عالمه الشعري بتماسك فني يؤسس لمعمارية نصيّة تذكي الوجود الشعري في لحظة من لحظات الكتابة وحساسيتها الجمالية وموجاتها الدافعة والنابضة في النص.
