هذا الكتاب شاهد عيان ووثيقة حية تُقدم إلى العالم أجمع بحكوماته وأفراده تكشف لهم عن تجارب إنسانية وصحافية عاشها مراسلو الجزيرة عن قرب في 31 من مايو/أيار 2010، على متن "أسطول الحرية" أو سفينة (مافي مرمرة) المتوجهة من تركيا إلى غزة بهدف كسر الحصار الدولي المفروض على القطاع وتقديم المساعدات الإنسانية. وفي هذا العمل "تحاول الجزيرة أن تؤرخ لمجموعة فريدة من التجارب الإنسانية والصحافية. تجدون في هذه التجارب مزيجاً إنسانياً بين الحقائق والمشاعر.. بين الخوف والتحدي.. بين القلق والرغبة المهنية في أن تخرج الحقيقة بتفاصيلها المؤلمة إلى النور...". فبينما اعتبر "محمد فال" تجربة السجن في الزنزانة الإسرائيلية (... هي لحظة فاصلة بين الحرية والعبودية تشبه في قوتها لحظة الوقوف على الخط الرفيع الفاصل بين الحياة والموت (...)" أحسست كأني وصلت فعلاً إلى غزة، بل وإن غزة معي في السجن"؛ آمنت "وسيمة بن صالح" أن المواجهة مع الموت في هكذا محنة هدفاً "... لهذا أفضل الموت وأنا أدافع عن هدف وقضية تستحق دفع حياتي في سبيلها على الموت بحادث أو حتى على سريري..."؛ أما "عثمان البتيري" يجيب بشجاعة أنه "على استعداد أن أعيد الكرة في رحلة جديدة لكسر الحصار على قطاع غزة؟ وكان جوابي وسيبقى، أني مستعد لأكون على أول رحلة تتوجه نحو غزة، إذا سمحت لي الجزيرة بذلك...". وأما المصور والصحافي "علي صبري دنون" فاعتبر أن إسرائيل لا تريد شهوداً على جريمتها (...) وأن هذه الرحلة كانت تاريخية بكل المقاييس، سواء من حيث الإعداد والحشد البشري والمادي، أو بوقائعها (...) أو بالتغطية الإعلامية الواسعة لهذا الحدث، وأخيراً بنتائجها التي وضعت إسرائيل في زاوية حرجة أمام الرأي العام العالمي..." وأخيراً يتساءل "جمال الشيال": "لماذا غضت بعض وسائل الإعلام الكبرى الطرف عن إسرائيل؟ (...) لقد استخدموا الغاز المسيل للدموع والقنابل الصوتية، بينما كان الرصاص الفولاذي المغطى بالمطاط يتطاير في جميع الاتجاهات (...)". هذا الكتاب مثالاً حياً لحدود استخدام القوة العسكرية الإسرائيلية في حضور وسائل الإعلام، وتجربة حرة وشريفة لشهداء أحياء واجهوا الموت من أجل كشف الحقيقة وتعرية الوقائع وتقديمها بالصوت والصورة والقلم؛ لتكون شاهداً على همجية إسرائيل ليس في غزة وحدها، بل في العالم أجمع...
