يلعب الغذاء الجيد دوراً أساسياً في نمو الطفل الجسدي والعقلي ويزيد من مقاومته للأمراض، لذلك كان الاهتمام بالغذاء أمراً بديهياً بالنسبة للأم والطبيب على حد سواء. من هذا المنطلق يأتي كتاب «البديع في تغذية الرضيع» لمؤلفه الدكتور محمد منار الكيالي ويتناول خلاله كل ما يختص بتغذية الرضيع في سنته الأولى، ويقول للآباء والأمهات "يجب أن نضع في الحسبان أن الاطفال يختلفون في تقبّل الغذاء نوعاً وكماً، بعض الرضّع يقبل على الأطعمة الجيدة المقدمة إليهم من الأم بنهم وشهية، وآخرون يرفضون الطعام الجديد، بل إن بعضهم يغلق فمه ويعلن الإضراب عن الطعام! ومن الطبيعي أن يفضل الرضيع بعض الأطعمة وينصرف عن أنواع أخرى، فهو يملك حاسة تذوق متطورة، وعلى الأم الذكية أن تعرف رغبات رضيعها، وتختار الوقت ونوعية الغذاء بما يتناسب ورغباته وما يتناسب مع أوقاتها.
ويحدث أحياناً أن تقف الأم مكتوفة اليدين، حائرة في أمرها عند إحدى مراحل التغذية!
