إن إبطال سادة المصير يولدون، وينمون ويعيشون بيننا، لكننا قلما نقترب منهم أو نتعرف إليهم.. فهم يحيطون أنفسهم بأجواء وطقوس تضفي عليهم شيئاً من القداسة وعمار بن المسعود في هذه الرواية رجل كالآخرين في هذا العالم المسكون بحب السلطة والقوة لم تسعفه قدراته ولا شخصيته المتقلبة على النجاح في أي عمل، فلم يجد غير الزعامة والقيادة، كي يظهر مواهبه ويخفي نزعاته العدوانية. وهو ليس الوحيد الذي تداعبه هذه الهواجس، بل هو فرد من بين عشرات بل مئات إن أجواء الرواية الساخرة القريبة جداً من الواقع الذي نحياه والذي تعبث به الأقدار، ورغبات هؤلاء الساسة والقادة المزعومين.
وإذا كان والده والجيران والأقارب قد حزنوا لهذا المصير المؤسف، وسعى كل حسب طاقته إلى إعادته من جديد لصفوف التلاميذ إلا أن مجلس الأساتذة ومن ورائه المدير والموظفون وحتى الحارس المسكين وقفوا بصرامة ضد كل محاولة في هذ السبيل، إذ كان كل واحد منهم قد عانى وبقدر متساوى من ألاعيب هذا الخبيث وفخاخه الكثيرة ولم يكن مستعداً لإعادة هذا الطفل المشكلة من جديد، وهكذا باءت كل محاولاتهم بالفشل الذريع أمام الإصرار والتصلب الجماعي للمدرسة، ولكن الوحيد الذي لم يحزنه ذلك كان عمار نفسه، إذ اعتبر أنه قد تخلص أخيراً من العقبة التي كانت تحول دون انطلاقه في عالم السياسة لتحقيق حلمه الذي لا مفر منه وهو أن يصبح رئيساً.
