تعكس هذه الرواية تأثير السفر عبر الزمن على زواج وحب هنري وكلير من خلال تفاصيل يسردها كل منهما، حيث يحاولا معاً أن يعيشا حياة عادية متطلعين إلى أهداف مشتركة وأعمال دائمة وأصدقاء مخلصين وأطفالاً محبين. ولكن هذه التطلعات يهددها شيء خارج عن إرادتيهما الأمر الذي يجعل الرواية عميقة ومؤثرة ومحركة لمشاعر إنسانية من الصعب نسيانها.
أما أجمل ما قيل عن هذه الرواية "قصة حب قديمة غريبة وفاتنة. نحن نلتقي جميعاً بالشخص الذي نحب عندما نكون كباراً، وعندما نكون قد ابتعدنا عن طفولتنا. أما هنري وكلير – بالرغم من البركة المتعمدة المختلطة لمرض هنري – العجز في التوافق الزمني –لديهما الحب بأسلوبين. هي قصة حول الإخلاص المكثف الذي ترشح عبر الزمن– عن شخصين تشاركا السراء والضراء وهما يكبران كخليلين في عالم يتغير خلال لحظة".
