الكتابة عن المدن مثل الكتابة عن الأشخاص والظواهر التي تحيط بنا.. فهل حظيت المدينة بالكتابة التي تستحق، وخصوصاً أن الرواية العراقية قد احتفت بالمدينة وتعاطت معها كتيمة سيدة في النص أو كبطلة رئيسة، فذاك أمر يتوقف على مفهوم المدينة عند كل كاتب، فلكل واحد نظرته، وعلاقته وموقفه وتفاعله وإحساسه بها. وهذا العمل يقحم بانسيابية في تاريخ يفترض أنه حديث، فمن مدينة البصرة إلى مدينة مشهد إلى مدن عراقية أخرى تبرز الصورة بوضوح في مستويات من الإبداع مختلفة، فجاءت نظاماً سردياً متواصلاً حمل مستجدات مرحلة الستينيات والسبعينيات من تاريخ العراق السياسي والاجتماعي وحتى الديني بمظاهره المختلفة. هي صور حيّة للمكان والزمان تتنوّع بالشكل والمحمول الدلالي يُعبِّر بها الروائي عن مشاهد يومية، وتجارب حيّة، وبنى ذهنية يتلازم فيها الديني مع المعرفي والتاريخي مع السياسي يغوص الراوي فيها عبر الزمن نحو أبطال مجهولين تربّعوا فوق موجة الزمن وما زالوا حاضرين في أذهان الناس "أمي... تذكرها الصورة فتتحدث عن الضريح وعن السرداب وعن الإمام الذي كلما ضاقت الدنيا أمامها ناشدته ففتح الأبواب بيديه النورانيتين. كانت تنظر للصورة وتتحدث (...)". وهكذا تبدو الصورة والمكان سليلة ذاكرة وموروث تجاربي أو نتاج حلمي مخيالي، نتج عن ذاكرة جماعية ما زالت مستمرة حتى عصرنا الحاضر. ما يميّز هذا العمل فضلاً عن المستوى البلاغي في توظيف الصورة، هو هذه القدرة العالية على مواجهة المتن الروائي في نفس مثابر مرتكز على شتى الأدوات الإجرائية، من تفكيك، وتفسير، ونقد، وجدل، ومقارنة وحتى التقييم لحكايات تحيا عالمها الخاص وتأوي إلى صورها غير منفصلة عنها إلى الأبد؛ حتى يبدو لكل وجه صورة، ولكل حكاية صورة، ولكل حلم صورة...
