(...) المرة الثانية التي صادفت فيها ذلك "القلم الأبنوس"، كانت في إحدى المدارس التي التحقت بها. كان مع أحد تلامذة الفصل . وكان يحتفظ به في درجه المغلق. وعندما كان يفتح القفل بالمفتاح ويُخرج القلم، كنت أنتقل من مكاني وأنضم إليه مع بعض الأولاد، أتفرج عليه وأطلب منه أن يسمح لي بالإمساك به و تفحصه.
في أحد الأيام جاء الولد ووجد الدرج مكسورًا والقلم اختفى.
أنا لم أنتبه لما حدث، إلا أنني لاحظت أن الأولاد و كانوا يجلسون أمامي في الناحية اليمنى من الفصل، يلتفتون نحوي ويتهامسون.
وعندما دخل المدرس، قام الولد و شكاني بأنني أخذت القلم، واستشهد بزملائه الذين قالوا إنني كنت شديد الاهتمام به، وقال آخر أنني فعلاً الوحيد الذي كان: "نفسه فيه".
والمدرس طلب مني الوقوف.
لا أذكر أنني تكلمت.
ما أذكره أن الدموع انهمرت من عيني وأنا واقف، ولم يكن معي منديلٌ، جففت عيني وأنفي في كُم القميص، وصاح المدرس، وكان معممًا، وله جبة:
. "إخص. الله يقرفك"
وأشار بيده إلى الباب:
. "أخرج برة"
ما أذكره أنني مشيت حتى مقدمة الفصل، وجريت.
ربما مازلت أجري حتى الآن.
