اختارت "زهراء الغانم" لروايتها الأولى عنوان "بين الشرفة وشجرة اللوز" وهي أداة للقياس أو للتعبير عن المسافة التي تتحرك فيها الحكاية، ولعلها أرادت أن تومئ من خلال هذا الاختيار، إلى أن الماضي لا يموت، والجذور لا تنقطع، حتى وإن اتخذت العودة إلى الماضي/الجذور شكل الذكرى، فلكل شخصية أنينها الخفي الذي يتمظهر فيه الماضي بقوة في الرواية، والذي لن يبقى منه سوى الذكريات والضحكات، والأحلام، والصور، والأرجوحة التي لا زالت معلقة بجانب شجرة اللوز. هذه المعادلة الصعبة تجد التعبير عنها من خلال العلاقات التي تربط بين شخوص الرواية، ومن خلال النظرة المختلفة للحياة لكل شخصية والتي تنطوي على الشيء وضده في آن واحد. ولكنها – أي الشخصيات – بدت خاضعة للنمو والتطور والتحول إيجاباً، سواء بفعل الإرادة أ و القدر. وعليه نجد أن حضور المرأة في الرواية تغلب عليه الإيجابية أكثر من حضور الرجل كماً ونوعاً فجميع النسوة (هيفاء – منى – ضحى – جمانة – جاكلين) استطعن إلى حدٍّ ما التصالح مع ذواتهن، على رغم الكبوات التي اعترضت طريق سعادتهن، وتركن أنفسهن تنساب مع الحياة، كما تُحرك الرياح مياه النهر من دون أي ميل لأية واحدة منهن للتصادم مع المحيط... <-p> أما كيف تقول الرواية ذلك، فالجواب يقودنا إلى الحديث عن فنية الرواية والتقنيات المستخدمة فيها، حيث اعتمدت الروائية على السرد ذاك الذي تتعدد حركته وزمانه فقد يعود إلى الوراء – الماضي وتطفو على سطحه الذكريات، وقد يتناول الحاضر، ويرصد الوقائع المتحركة، وقد يتجه إلى الأمام – المستقبل فيلامس المتخيل، ما يضفي على السرد شيئاً من التنوع والحيوية، هذا الذي يقل في الرواية، ويشكل إلى جانب الحوار النسيج للأحداث والوقائع. وبعد، (بين الشرفة وشجرة اللوز) عمل روائي هادف ومنظم، وزهراء الغانم تثبت في تجربتها الأولى أنها روائية تستحق القراءة.
